The Women in Photonics 2023 career workshop took place from November 26-30, 2023 and was a great success. Many thanks to all participants for these wonderful days in Jena with an interactive program, exciting lectures on cutting-edge topics, time for exchange and networking as well as guided tours in various laboratories of the Leibniz IPHT.
The workshop “Women in Photonics“ aims at connecting excellent female scientists at the beginning of their career with experts in photonics holding leading positions at research institutions and companies.
The focus of the workshop will be on:
The workshop addresses female postdocs and PhD students working in these research areas, who want to present their own work and build up new networks. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange with experienced scientists from academia and industry and jointly develop strategies for a successful professional career.

The workshop will provide an outstanding opportunity for female postdocs and PhD students to share their research plans and results, as well as to network with senior female scientists.
This meeting is an opportunity to ask questions, learn presentation skills, discover career paths in optics, and have fun.
I hope to see you there!
The registration and abstract submission deadline was August 31, 2023, and the online registration is now closed.
We have received numerous very interesting submissions – thank you very much!
A limited number of travel grants is available.
After the registration all abstracts will be reviewed and authors will receive more information on the results and traval grant information in time.
Conferencing provides a great a forum to interact with leaders in the field and the start as well as building of your network both of which are key to being successful in both the academic as well as commercialization the world.
I am very convinced that the young scientists who took part in the event will use the experience from this event in their own professional life and I am sure they learned a lot both for their professional and personal life.

At the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (Leibniz IPHT) in Jena, scientists use light to find solutions to questions and urgent problems in the fields of health, environment, medicine and safety. Under the motto “Photonics for Life”, they research light-based technologies that make our lives safer, healthier and cleaner. Especially in the field of optical health technologies, Leibniz IPHT, in cooperation with partners from research and industry, is specifically promoting translation: the transfer of research results into applicable solutions – from Ideas to Instruments.

The workshop was a wonderful example of industries, universities and disciplinary societies working together to support underrepresented groups. The opportunity for these women to connect with each other, and share their biophotonics expertise was invaluable.
